How to Stop and Start Services via the Command line

You can use the net command to start or stop a service on a computer. The only catch is that you need to know what the service is named.

To get a list of services on the system you can either refer to the registry for the service name, or look in the management console to find the name of the service. If you use the name of the service in management console remember to put quotes around the name. For example security center would be referenced as "security center".

You can also use Net Start by itself to show a list of all services currently running.
